Nicosia Old Town Walking Tour

 

 

 

 

 

In this tour, you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the main historical landmarks of Nicosia’s old town. Starting from the new Eleftheria Square, designed by the famous architect Zaha Hadid, then walking towards Paphos Gate and Kasteliotissa Hall, the commercial roads of Ledras and Onasagorou, the Green line, the Phaneromeni Square with Phaneromeni church and School, the new municipality hall and ending at the Venetian walls of Nicosia.

 

Welcome Reception

 

 

 

 

On Wednesday evening, ICOT2023’s Welcome Reception will take place at the Amphitheatre of the new Eleftheria Square. In this Reception you will be welcomed by the members of the organizing committee of the conference and have the opportunity to get acquainted in the square’s idyllic atmosphere enjoying snacks and drinks.

A green place in the heart of Nicosia where you can walk around orange trees, tangerines, olive trees and many other flowers and plants of Cyprus.

10.00 Visit to Lefkara. Lefkara village is situated at the foot of the Troodos Mountain in the south eastern region of Cyprus, 650m above sea level, 45 km from Nicosia. Lefkara has a great tradition in lace-making which dates back to at least the fourteenth century; for this reason, Lefkara laces are inscribed on the Representative List of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2009.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

12.00 Visit to the Neolithic Settlement of Choirokoitia (Khirokitia). The archaeological site of Khirokitia is one of the most noteworthy and well-preserved prehistoric sites of the eastern Mediterranean. The magnitude of the site is signified by the fact that Khirokitia is one of the three sites of Cyprus enlisted in the World Heritage list of UNESCO since 1998.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

13.30 Free time for lunch, coffee and swimming at Larnaka city. In the city you can visit Larnaka’s Medieval Castle (Fort), the Church of Saint Lazarus, and/or Foinikoudes (Palm Tree) Promenade.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

16.00 Return to Nicosia (making a stop at Larnaka airport for those travelling).
