Climate, society and policy in \u201cjust\u201d transitions<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tazim Jamal is a Professor in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences at Texas A&amp;M University, Texas, USA. Her research interests lie in sustainable tourism development, multi-stakeholder collaboration and\u00a0 participatory tourism planning and cultural heritage management. Of increasing concern is climate change and the need for sustainable destination management. The undergraduate and graduate courses she facilitates address theoretical, applied and methodological issues in tourism development management and marketing, tourism impacts and heritage tourism. She serves on Master\u2019s and PhD graduate committees within and external to the department,\u00a0 participates on a wide range of journal editorial boards, and has published extensively. She is the author of <em>Justice <\/em><em>and Ethics in Tourism<\/em> (published in Feb. 2019, by Routledge), co-editor\u00a0of\u00a0The SAGE Handbook of Tourism Studies (2009), as well as an Associate Editor of the <em>Encyclopedia of Tourism<\/em>, 2nd ed.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Nuno Fazenda, Portuguese Tourism Strategy Department, Turismo de Portugal, IP\/Ministry of the Economy, Portugal\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-772 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/iatour.org\/icot2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Nuno-Fazenda-de-Almeida-245x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"176\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iatour.org\/icot2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Nuno-Fazenda-de-Almeida-245x300.png 245w, https:\/\/iatour.org\/icot2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Nuno-Fazenda-de-Almeida.png 379w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 176px) 100vw, 176px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Title of Speech: <em>Portugal\u2019s Tourism Strategy 2027: A road to a sustainable future<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nuno Farenda holds a PhD in Regional and Urban Planning (in the field of Tourism) from the Higher Technical Institute, Lisbon, and a Master of Science in Management and Environmental Policies from the University of Aveiro. With several years of professional experience in the tourism field, Nuno Fazenda was\u00a0Expert-Coordinator at the North Portugal Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRN-N) with responsibility for the Action Plan for Tourism in the North of Portugal, and technical coordinator of the Tourism Development Plan for the Douro Valley 2007-2013. In the past, he was also Managing Director of two hotels. He participated in the High-Level Group of the United Nations Foundation (Washington DC) for the international project &#8220;Criteria for Sustainable Tourism&#8221;, lectured as an invited professor in the Business School of George Washington University and has several communications in Portugal and abroad, namely Europe, Brazil, China, Mexico and the United States. Nowadays, he is the\u00a0Director of the Portuguese Tourism Strategy Department at Turismo de Portugal (Ministry of Economy), responsible for the technical coordination of the national tourism strategy &#8211; Tourism Strategy 2027. He is also Professor at <em>Universidade Cat\u00f3lica Portuguesa<\/em> (Portugal), member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the UCP and international expert of the World Excellence for Destinations Center.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Tazim Jamal, Texas A&amp;M University, USA Title of Speech: What is \u201cbalanced tourism growth\u201d?
